NAVSEA 21
SEA 21 is equipping today’s surface ships with tomorrow’s technology to keep them in the Fleet through their service lives. As an organization it is responsible for maintaining lifecycle support functionality for all non-nuclear surface ships. Maintenance and modernization efforts on these ships are accomplished through scheduled upgrade programs through the end of a ship’s lifecycle.
At the end of a ship’s life, SEA 21 manages formal decommissioning from the Fleet and, in some cases, transfers or sales to friendly foreign navies; when a ship is not transferred or sold; SEA 21 manages its inactivation and safe disposal. SEA 21 currently operates in conjunction with PEO Ships as the Team Ships organization; providing true cradle to grave ship acquisition support and management.
